Spring newsletter 2025

Let us help the children!!

As spring brings new life, it’s also a time to reflect on children without homes or families. You will recall from our previous newsletter: Heart for Children News 04.07.2025 | Heart for Children that we were considering a new project to help abused and abandoned children. In this respect we had been approached by Fani Manganye and his wife Sinah of the Kingdom Fellowship church in Bethanie (near Brits). We are old friends from more than 20 years ago. They had already started with the construction of two safe homes for children on the church premises and asked for help from Heart for Children. During our first meetings they had informed us that neglect of children in the North-West province was very common and that as teachers they had to deal with this almost on a daily basis.

After the special support and well wishes that we received from our donors and supporters, and after prayerful consideration, Annette and I decided to go ahead with this project. We visited Fani and Sinah again on 27/7/2025. We had been invited to first attend the service of the church in the Losperfontein prison where Fani also ministers; this turned out to be a big blessing for us (Fani is indeed a very inspiring preacher and teacher!). After this, the Memorandum of Understanding between Heart for Children and Kingdom Fellowship was tabled and signed. The beginning of our official partnership was celebrated with some flowers for the ladies (see picture above) and a special lunch prepared by Sinah! We are confident that God will prepare a way for us for the benefit of the children in the North-West.

As a result of donations received during the past 2 months, we were already able to finance the construction of the roof for the two homes. The building of the roof has now started!! See pictures below.

The second phase of this project is to finish the interior of the houses such as flooring, ceilings, the plumbing, the lighting and the electricity on the inside. We are hoping and praying for contributions from you and the general public for this project.

Also, if you live in the North-West or in Gauteng, and if you are able to help us with anything for the homes, like good and durable furniture, appliances that are still in good working condition, kitchen utensils, bedding, or anything else that you can think of, we will make a plan to come and fetch this. Fani has offered the use of his bakkie for this purpose. This would most probably have to be during a weekend.

Any donation and any help will be much appreciated. To make a donation now, please click here:

Easter 2025

Easter 2025

The other day in church (Hatfield Christian Church), we were drawn to an aspect of Jesus’ betrayal that I had forgotten or never realized. If you do not have time to watch the whole (excellent) sermon of Letichia Dlamini, you can watch this in the video from about the 42nd minute. Here is the quoted text:
“Then Judas, his betrayer, seeing that Jesus had been condemned, deeply regretted what he had done. He returned the thirty pieces of silver* to the chief priests and elders,c
4saying, “I have sinned in betraying innocent blood.” They said, “What is that to us? Look to it yourself.”
5* Flinging the money into the temple, he departed and went off and hanged himself.
6The chief priests gathered up the money, but said, “It is not lawful to deposit this in the temple treasury, for it is the price of blood.”
7After consultation, they used it to buy the potter’s field as a burial place for foreigners.
8That is why that field even today is called the Field of Blood.
9Then was fulfilled what had been said through Jeremiah the prophet,* “And they took the thirty pieces of silver, the value of a man with a price on his head, a price set by some of the Israelites,
10d and they paid it out for the potter’s field just as the Lord had commanded me.”
(Matt. 27:3-10, compare also Zech. 11:13)
So, Judas was full of remorse and brought the money back hoping to undo what he had done. When that was refused he threw the money on the floor and left. What is so striking about this story is that the chief priests apparently considered that this money was now tainted, it was ‘blood money’. It could not be put back in the treasury of the Temple. The implication of what they did with the money is of course that they acknowledged and knew full well that Jesus was totally innocent….
Letichia makes an interesting comparison as to the purpose of the money used for the betrayal of Jesus’ life. The potter’s field had been used of course by the potter to throw away the cracked pots and pieces of broken pottery, the failures, the Humpty Dumpties, so to speak. She compared this with the broken pieces of our lives. This is exactly why Jesus came and his life and his sacrifice brings the pieces together, making us whole again, if we simply ask Him.

Say what you will about Donald Trump, but I must say that I was most impressed with Melania Trump’s song: “Thank You for the Cross”. Please take a listen. Click on the link below.

Wishing you all a peaceful Passover and a very blessed Easter!

Hope is what we do….

Hope is what we do….

Recently I read in a leaflet from another charity: HOPE is what we do…’  That sentence stuck with me. ‘HOPE is what we do’, expresses exactly what we also stand for! Heart for Children is about action, about doing! Helping children wherever possible, so that they can grow up healthy, receive education, learn skills. Above all, it is about giving protection, at home, at school and online. But it goes even further: either there is HOPE, or there is NOTHING, because only HOPE gives life!

(I am reminded of Luke 24: 21-32)

I am so pleased to be able to report that thanks to the generosity of all Heart for Children supporters – and a few of our donors’ exceptional generosity! – we have already collected almost R50000 for our 2025 project so-far, i.e. the canvas enclosure that we want to install at the

for babies and small children.  For more information about this, click here:

Appeal 2025

Appeal 2025

In a previous newsletter from ‘Heart for Children’ we informed you that this year we want to help ‘Guardians of Hope’ in East London who are taking care of orphaned and/or abandoned babies and small children. We received the following letter of appeal from Philip Nicholson who is a member of the board of both ‘Heart for Children’ and ‘Guardians of Hope’.

Appeal for Sponsorship of Canvas Coverings

‘Guardians of Hope’ is a dedicated place of safety in East London, providing care for vulnerable children who have been abandoned or surrendered at birth for adoption. Our mission is to meet their physical, spiritual, medical, and psychological needs comprehensively. We strive to spread hope within our community, ensuring that vulnerable children receive the care they deserve and that our community is aware of our presence and support. Our commitment extends to providing a loving home environment for 30 vulnerable children, and we actively work towards family reunification whenever possible. In cases where reunification is not feasible, we support adoption processes, ensuring that the children find a nurturing and permanent loving family.

The facility comprises a large house, a living area for the director and her family (the Brenkmans), small classrooms for pre-school education, and outdoor play facilities. A large courtyard roof was recently installed to provide shelter for the children. It doubles as an entertainment venue for functions as well as birthday party functions for young families, which provides a valuable income stream for the home. Two sides of the covered area are 12m and 14m respectively, which are open to the elements. During inclement weather, the entertainment area becomes virtually unusable, and functions must be cancelled at short notice, at great inconvenience to the parties involved.

The attached quote from an established and reputable business, Border Canvas, is the lowest negotiated with various competitors, and represents a very reasonable investment to install canvased roll-up covers on both sides, as it will be done at cost by the supplier. The target amount to be raised is R59 000. Once the entertainment area is fully covered, the outdoor play facility will also be usable during periods of rain and functions can be planned without the risk of cancellations.

Thank you in advance for partnering with us in this worthy cause.

Yours in Christ,

Philip Nicholson
